Aeroseal Duct Sealing

Did you know 25-40% of the air blowing through your vents is escaping through cracks and holes in your air ducts? You could be wastefully heating and cooling areas like your attic, crawl space, and even behind walls. Along with inefficiency, dust, debris, and allergens are being blasted through your vents all over your house! This is why, as a homeowner, you may want to invest in aeroseal duct sealing your vents. Thankfully, your friends at Schneider Heating & Air Conditioning are here to explain the process to you.

What is Aeroseal Duct Sealing?

Your home’s duct system is a branching network of tubes in the walls, floors, and ceilings; it carries the air from your home’s furnace and central air conditioner to each room. Ducts are made of sheet metal, fiberglass, or other materials.  As mentioned, ducts that are leaking will significantly increase your energy bills.  Aeroseal duct sealing is a process meant to alleviate leaking ducts, in which a non-toxic aerosol mist seeks out and plugs leaks in duct work. The duct sealant is applied from the inside of the duct system and can be used for both residential and commercial spaces.

Warning Signs of Leaking Ducts

If you notice some rooms are cooler or warmer than others; some rooms feel drafty while others feel stuffy; a musty smell; accumulation of dust and/or an increase in humidity, it is time to have your duct system inspected by a professional.

If you’re experiencing leaky ducts, the good news is aerosealing your ductwork has many benefits!

  • Lower Energy Usage and Bills – leaking ducts can reduce your energy efficiency drastically (up to 20%). Sealing your ducts will allow your HVAC unit to function at its expected capacity, lowering your bills, and will likely pay for itself.
  • More efficient HVAC unit – your home will lose temperature via leaky ducts. In turn, your HVAC unit will be forced to cycle more frequently (again, contributing to a higher cost). Therefore, your AC unit will function more optimally with properly aerosealed ducts.
  • Better Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) – pollutants, chemicals and dust can enter your home through ductwork, exacerbating allergies or asthma. Aerosealing your ducts will limit the amount of pollutants circulating throughout your home.
  • Protecting the Environment – since most of the utilities used in your home (washer/dryer, dishwasher, HVAC example) garner their energy via the burning of fossil fuels, this contributes to smog, acid rain, and climate change. Properly sealing your ducts will contribute to less pollutants.
